Bloody German Shepherds

You see now I'm one I'm allowed to swear. Honestly though, what is it with that breed?! I've been feeling a bit poorly again this last couple of days. I don't have a temperature or anything but my tum is sore again. I get to eat chicken and rice which is good. Anyway we went out for a quick run in the park to take my mind off things and i've been set upon by this huge long haired evil untrained thing and got a punctured back for my troubles. And its owner has the GALL to say that it takes two dogs to start a fight!

This is the fifth time I've been bitten and had broken skin (not to mention the times I've been set upon without actual bodily harm) and I don't do ANYTHING. I stand there quietly with my eyes averted, my ears down and my tail down and they just decide they don't like the look of me and that's it. Honestly what is the problem with other dogs. I guess it is because I've still got my equipment and am, quite frankly, streets better looking than any of them that they feel threatened. Mum asked this bloke if he could look her in the eye and say that this dog had never done anything like it before and it was quite telling that he couldn't. She told him quietly that he was letting his dog down and ought to train it when really she'd have liked to scream and hit his smug little face. Ho hum.

Oh Charlie! I have been so remiss not reading up on your blog these past couple months (mom is in wedding frenzy and has been too busy to take photos, and really what is a good blog with out photos....) Anyway, I am super happy to hear you are feeling better and hope that there is no more of that skinny business.

And as for run-ins with dogs, here in the states we have pits to worry about. There are a couple people with 3-4 pits each that come out at off-leash time in Central Park, and they aren't friendly. Mom and I stay clear, and I know some of the other moms and dads have said things to these guys.

Hang in there!!!

Hey Brisztow! Good to hear from you. Steer well clear of those nasty dogs! I am feeling much better now but was a bit freaked out earlier.

So do you get to wear any cool new outfit to the wedding!?

Charlie mate.. you have been in the wars of late, nasty GSD, never liked them, big fat hairy things not at all like us Vizzies.

i hear your mum has been worried about your new skinny look and has been chatting to my mum about diets, well I have always been an incredibly fussy eater and much as I know mum loves me i am very suspicious of what she tries to feed me at times, (unlike little Ditto who is a greedy little pig) but do try and tuck into your food at the moment and put some weight back on as I think ur mum has been stressed out enough for the time being :-)

Then again.. stressing your mum out does seem to get you results... you seem to be having an entire new wardrobe. I managed to get a new collar today but think the answer must be to stress her out more and then maybe I will get a coat too!

Charlie I would love to come and kiss it better for you.... LOTS and LOTS of hugs and kisses from Ditto

PS I have heard mum talking about diving again, so might not be able to see you on the 3rd Nov sniff sniff

Hello uncle Charlie,

I hope your wound was not bad,did you have to have stitches?
You have been bitten a lot of times.
The bitch which bit me was a German shepherd cross I think.
When I realised what she had done to me I went over to sort her out but my boss dragged me away to the vet instead.
She also wounded another dog a few weeks later.

My boss says that when Dylan went for his first walks with Rosie,a lot of her frends really did not like him but they soon got used to him.
On one of my first walks in the park I met nine dogs and seven of them went for me,including four at the same time.

I am a bit of an alpha dog which can be a good thing at times like that.
But my boss says that is not a good thing when dogs sniff my bottom though.
I really don't like that and will tell dogs off if they don't stop it.
Which is why he is very careful when I meet new dogs for the first time.
I am never allowed to go up to any dog I don't know without my boss right next to me,maybe your mum should try that,it stops most incidents from happening.
He always has a bottle of water with him to scare them away if they are not very friendly or to tell me off if I misbehave.
Water is also very good for breaking up fights.

At the moment I am having a week long viz wiz of my own with Rosie and Dylan in Cheshire and I would love to meet any other vizslak who are round here,as long as they don't sniff me!

Awwww our very favourite wee man ... we were so ANGRY about that freaking GSD. We have made an effigy and stuck some pins in and wished like mad that he gets body bashed by a Newfoundland (they think they are bears and are terrifying). And we hope the owner falls under a bus. (Mum says that is just a leeetle extreme but hey redgirls don't do things by halves)

Redgirls feeling VERY protective.

Big hugs to little Charlie.

diesel ... serious question .. would you mind if we redgirls sniffed your bottom (it would only be cos we wished to get to know you better) We are quite polite usually.

Hello redgirls,

I can be quite tolerant of a polite sniff, especially from bitches.
But I don't like it when dogs I don't know run up and sniff me like I am a ladyboy.
If my friends sniff me,which they don't often do (which is why they are still my friends) I tell them off in a very polite way instead of battering them.
What I don't like most of all is dogs who just don't understand what curled lips and growling means and who won't leave me alone no matter how many times I batter them.
That means you Prince,Chester and Louie and Dash too sometimes.
If dogs leave me alone then I am very friendly with them.
Even if they sniff me and then stop when I tell them too I will be nice to them.
The strange thing is,nobody used to sniff me before that operation I had and I was really good with other dogs.

Hey Brov, you got to be careful with those big doggies. One snapped at me not too long ago but it missed and mummy shouted at it. I wish they would leave you alone to recover properly, and if they don't i will come down there and give them what for. Just as soon as I save enough pocket money to get the train.

If theres any sniffing to be done I'm in!! I love it but not when Zala does it sometimes 'cos then she gets a bit carried away and tries to ............ Oh, mum says I can't write that. Sorry. Zala won't let other dogs sniff her and gets a bit grumpy sometimes. Mum always puts her on the lead till shes calm then lets her play if shes good, but I dont understand why other people dont even try to control their dogs.

Anyway, more war wounds Charlie, the chicks will love that!

Yes I am quite battle scarred now - the nose when I was a pup, my side from some horrid dalmation and now my back...oh plus obviously the big scar on my tummy from when I wrestled the 17 pit bulls off the poor little puppy :-)

I'm not sure about being sniffed either - i just stand there quietly with my ears all low like they're about to fall off my head (they won't will they?) and wait til they're finished. I don't often sniff back cos it isn't that polite.

Diesel said...

Hello uncle Charlie,

do you put your tail down and keep your head low when they sniff you?

Diesel.

Charlie said...

My tail is low but my head isn't really up or down - i tend to look away to the side and slightly up in a bit of a pained way. do you think they're getting the wrong idea?

Hello uncle Charlie,

it sounds like you enjoy being sniffed about as much as I do!
Being a bit of a he dog I sure dogs know I don't want to be sniffed.
If I was more submissive I would just put up with it.
A lot of my friends have had problems with other dogs.
Quite a few of them used to be kept on the lead until they met me.
Coco was muzzled and on a long lead when I first met her.
Dogs like that don't seem to bother me,maybe they know that would be a bad idea.
Then I introduce them to my friends and everyone gets along after a while.
I am a therapy dog in my own special way!
My boss thinks I have a strong understanding of dog hierarchy because of the environments I was in as a puppy.
I walk to the park off lead, there is a big bull mastiff who is sometimes off loose at the bottom of the street.
Once he came up to me and got in my face,so I told him where to go.
He walked away and has never bothered me since.
The same dog bit my friend Magic the golden retriever, leaving a bad injury on his head.
But he will not mess with me.
I think a lot of dogs work out who they can get away with dominating and in my case it is just not worth it.
When dogs don't really know eachother there is a bit of pushing to establish the pecking order too.
Then there are a small number of dogs who are just vicious, often because they have been attacked.
If you are very careful and always have your boss near when you meet dogs you don't know, you will probably get bitten a lot less often.

Oh dear lots of talk of sniffing and biting and such.

Trouble is Charlie if you show submission sometimes to nasty dogs cus they are bullies they then pounce, which isnt of course your fault at all.

I'm quite lucky, I've never been bitten (nor would i bite anyone of course), I always meet other dogs with head and tail high and do have a bit of a habit of standing over them, if they growl at me I completely ignore it and that seems to faze them.

Oh and a top tip, if you bounce up and down and keep jabbing them in the neck with your nose it really does confuse even the nastiest dog!

Ditto on the other hand is a bit of a chicken and runs back to Mum if she sees a dog she doesnt like, I suppose thats girls for you!

The first time mum took me to puppy school the teacher warned her to be careful of 'shepherds'. She thought he meant something to do with sheep and keeping me away from them but turns out he meant big fat hairy dogs who are also called shepherds. English is very confusing sometimes. So now I am not allowed near 'shepherds' or 'sheep'.
